The Trials of Apollo: The Hidden Oracle Chapter 14 Summary& Review

Recap

Chapter 14 starts off with how Apollo feels about Meg being the daughter of Demeter. Apollo has history with Demeter. Apollo used to date one of Demeter’s daughter. Demeter didn’t approve. After Persephone had been kidnapped by Hades, Demeter wasn’t exactly too fond of her daughters dating gods. So Demeter and Apollo pretty much went back and forth about it and it didn’t end well. Let’s just say ever since then Apollo made sure to stay away from Demeter’s daughter. Or at least until Meg came along.

Apollo did think it was weird how powerful Meg was to be a demigod of Demeter. Most of Demeter’s kids can only grow crops and keep away bacteria fungi. But Meg was pulling out golden blades and summoning Karpois. This really made Apollo question who Meg’s dad was.

Anyways, the day is over and it’s time to go to bed. Apollo went to his cabin and pretended to go to when Will, Kayla, and Austin walked in. While Apollo was pretending to sleep, he could hear his children taking about how concerned and worried they are for him. Once again, this threw Apollo into a depressed state of mind. He didn’t like the fact that he couldn’t reassure his kids. He felt small.

Thankfully, he felt much better and a lot more optimistic in the morning. In the morning Will, Kayla, and Austin taught him how to shower, use the toilet, and brush his teeth. He was in an even better mood when he got to eat bacon.

After Apollo was ready for the day, he goes to sit and talk with Meg. Apollo tells Meg that her fighting style is similar to a gladiator from the late Roman Empire. This fighting style is hard to master and one of the most deadliest. And her Imperial Gold swords indicate Roman training. Apollo basically explained to Meg how powerful she was and he wanted know why she was so powerful. All Meg would tell him was that she never met her mom and her stepdad raised her. Her stepdad was the one that gave her the rings that summoned the swords.

Meg doesn’t really want to keep talking about her parents and Apollo respects that and changes the subject. They started talking about what they were going to do for the 3-legged race since they were going to be partners. Unfortunately, they were interrupted by Sherman Yang’s announcement that they all had boot camp.

Review

I feel a lot of sympathy for what Apollo is going through emotionally. I can’t blame him for being upset. He is in a tough position where he can’t even tell his kids that everything is going to be okay. But I am glad to see how Apollo’s bounces back the next morning. I think the fact that he learned how to do something on his own and he was becoming more independent in some ways. I couldn’t help but laugh when I was reading Apollo’s reaction to bacon. I can’t say that I’m surprised though. Comfort food can do wonders to anyone’s spirit.

Moving onto Meg , I am really curious to know more about her past. It’s clear to tell that Meg is an interesting person and I want to know more about her. My curiosity about Meg could have something to do with how mysterious and secretive she comes off. And I don’t think that Meg being so powerful has much to do with Demeter. Apollo said himself that Meg is different from the rest of Demeter’s children. The reason for her being so powerful could be because her dad or stepdad.
